Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about sports arbitrage betting and BetSuite.
Arbitrage Basics
What is sports arbitrage betting?
Sports arbitrage betting (also called "arbing" or "sure betting") is a strategy where you place bets on all possible outcomes of a sporting event across different sportsbooks to guarantee a profit regardless of the result. This is possible because different sportsbooks sometimes offer different odds on the same event, creating a pricing gap you can exploit. For example, if one book has Team A at +110 and another has Team B at +110, you can bet both sides and profit no matter who wins.
How does arbitrage betting work?
Arbitrage works by taking advantage of pricing differences between sportsbooks. When the combined implied probability of all outcomes falls below 100%, an arbitrage opportunity exists. BetSuite scans odds from multiple sportsbooks in real-time, identifies these gaps, calculates the optimal stake for each side, and helps you execute before the odds move. The key is speed: opportunities typically last seconds to minutes before sportsbooks adjust their lines.
What is a "sharp" vs "soft" sportsbook?
Sharp sportsbooks (like Pinnacle, Bookmaker, BetOnline) set accurate lines quickly, accept high limits, and rarely limit winning bettors. They're used as reference points for the "true" odds. Soft sportsbooks (like FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM) cater to recreational bettors, are slower to update odds, and have more promotions. The gap between sharp and soft book odds is where arbitrage opportunities exist. BetSuite includes both types so you can identify when a soft book is mispriced relative to the sharp line.
How much money can I make with arbitrage betting?
Arbitrage opportunities typically offer 1-5% profit margins per bet. Your actual earnings depend on several factors: your bankroll size, the number of opportunities you execute daily, how many sportsbook accounts you have active, and market conditions. Someone with a $10,000 bankroll executing 5-10 arbs per day at 2% average edge could theoretically generate $100-200+ daily. Results vary based on effort, available markets, and account limitations.
What is the typical edge or profit margin?
Most arbitrage opportunities offer between 1% and 5% edge. Lower-edge arbs (1-2%) are more common and last longer. Higher-edge arbs (3-5%+) are rarer and disappear faster as the market corrects. BetSuite lets you filter by minimum edge so you can focus on opportunities that match your strategy. Many bettors target 1.5%+ edges for a good balance of volume and profitability.
Is arbitrage betting risk-free?
While the math guarantees profit if both bets are placed at the stated odds, execution risk exists. Odds can change between placing your first and second bet. Sportsbooks can void bets, apply different rules, or limit your account. BetSuite helps minimize these risks with real-time odds monitoring and fast execution tools, but it's not 100% risk-free. That said, properly executed arbitrage is significantly lower risk than traditional betting.
Legality & Ethics
Is sports arbitrage betting legal?
Yes, sports arbitrage betting is completely legal in the United States, Canada, and most countries. You're simply placing bets at publicly available odds offered by licensed sportsbooks. There's nothing illegal about betting on both sides of a game at different sportsbooks. While sportsbooks may not like it (and can limit your account), you're not breaking any laws. For more details, read our complete guide to arbitrage betting legality.
Is arbitrage betting ethical?
Yes. You're using publicly available information (odds) to make informed decisions. Sportsbooks set their own odds and accept your bets voluntarily. Arbitrage actually helps make markets more efficient by punishing inefficient pricing. It's similar to how currency traders profit from exchange rate discrepancies between markets. You're not cheating, manipulating outcomes, or breaking any rules.
Can I get in trouble for arbitrage betting?
No, you cannot get in legal trouble for arbitrage betting. The worst that can happen is a sportsbook limits or closes your account, which is their right under their terms of service. They cannot withhold your legitimate winnings or take any legal action against you. Arbitrage betting is simply smart betting, not fraud or cheating.
Do sportsbooks allow arbitrage betting?
Sportsbooks don't explicitly prohibit arbitrage betting, but they reserve the right to limit or close accounts of customers they deem unprofitable. This is standard practice and applies to any consistently winning bettor, not just arbitrageurs. The key is managing your accounts wisely: varying bet sizes, mixing in some regular bets, and spreading action across multiple books. BetSuite is designed with account longevity in mind.
Account Limiting
Will sportsbooks limit my account?
Sportsbooks can and do limit accounts they identify as consistently profitable. However, several factors affect how quickly this happens: your betting patterns, bet sizes, which markets you target, and the specific sportsbook. Some books are more limit-tolerant than others. BetSuite is designed with account longevity in mind: session-based usage, no bot-like patterns, and you control the execution speed.
How long until I get limited?
It varies significantly by sportsbook. Some aggressive soft books may limit within weeks of consistent winning. Others are more tolerant and may take months. Sharp books like Pinnacle rarely limit at all. The timeline depends on how much you're winning, your betting patterns, and the specific book's policies. Diversifying across many books and following best practices extends your runway.
What happens when I get limited?
When limited, you may see lower maximum bet amounts, restricted access to certain markets, or in extreme cases, account closure. Your existing balance and pending bets are not affected. BetSuite allows you to swap limited books for other options at no extra charge. With 15+ sportsbooks supported and new ones entering the market regularly, there's always opportunity even if some accounts get limited.
How can I avoid getting limited?
Several strategies help extend account longevity: vary your bet sizes (don't always bet perfect arbitrage amounts), avoid always taking the best odds on every market, mix in some recreational bets, don't bet on the sharpest lines immediately when they move, spread your action across many books, and use your accounts regularly for non-arb bets. For detailed strategies, read our guide to avoiding sportsbook limits.
Which sportsbooks are most limit-tolerant?
Sharp sportsbooks like Pinnacle, Bookmaker, and BetOnline are known for rarely limiting winning bettors. Among US-regulated books, tolerance varies. Offshore books generally have higher limits and more tolerance than regulated state-by-state books. BetSuite categorizes books as SHARP or SOFT so you know what to expect from each.

Our Bronze tier includes one sharp offshore anchor (Bookmaker) and one soft offshore option (Bovada).

Yes. If a sportsbook limits your account, you can swap it for another book from our supported list at no extra charge. This is included in all paid tiers. With 130+ books in our master database, there's always an alternative available.
Why include "sharp" books if I'm betting against "soft" books?
Sharp books serve as your reference point for the true market price. When you see Bookmaker and BetOnline both move to a certain line but FanDuel hasn't adjusted yet, you have confidence the gap is real and exploitable. Sharp books confirm the arbitrage opportunity exists. They're also where you can often place the other side of your arb with high limits and no restrictions.

Getting Started
How much bankroll do I need to start?
You can start with any bankroll, but larger bankrolls allow bigger bets and faster compounding. Most serious arbitrage bettors recommend starting with at least $1,000-5,000 spread across multiple sportsbooks. With smaller bankrolls, profits will be modest but it's a good way to learn. The free Bronze tier lets you practice without any software cost.
How many sportsbook accounts do I need?
At minimum, you need accounts at 2 sportsbooks to place an arbitrage bet. For practical arbitrage betting, we recommend accounts at 5-10+ sportsbooks to have enough opportunity volume. More accounts = more opportunities. BetSuite's Bronze tier works with 5 books, Silver with 10, and Gold with 15.
Is arbitrage betting beginner-friendly?
Yes, with proper tools. The concept is straightforward: bet both sides at different books, guarantee profit. BetSuite handles the complex math (calculating optimal stakes, identifying opportunities). You just need to execute the bets. Our Bronze tier is free, so you can learn without financial risk. We also publish educational content on our blog.
How long does it take to execute an arbitrage bet?
With practice and pre-fill tools, experienced users can execute a complete arbitrage (both sides) in 30-60 seconds. Beginners may take 2-3 minutes initially. Speed matters because odds can change. BetSuite's pre-fill feature (Silver+) significantly reduces execution time by automatically navigating to the right bet slip with stakes pre-populated.
What if the odds change while I'm placing bets?
This is called "slippage" and it's a real risk in arbitrage betting. If odds move between placing your first and second bet, your guaranteed profit may decrease or disappear. BetSuite shows real-time odds so you can see changes instantly. With practice and fast execution, you'll learn to minimize this risk. Always check the current odds before confirming each bet.
Technical Questions
What devices does BetSuite support?
BetSuite is a desktop application available for Windows and Mac. It's designed for users who keep multiple sportsbook tabs open on their computer. We're not currently available on mobile, as serious arbitrage betting requires the multi-window workflow that desktop provides.
Do I need to download software?
Yes. BetSuite is a desktop application that you download and install on your computer. This allows us to provide faster execution, better integration with your sportsbook accounts, and a more reliable experience than browser-based alternatives. Downloads are available for Windows and Mac.
How does pre-fill work?
When you click an arbitrage opportunity in BetSuite, pre-fill opens your sportsbook in a new tab with the correct bet slip already populated: the right game, market, selection, and stake amount. You just review and click "place bet." This saves precious seconds compared to manually navigating and entering data.
Is my data secure?
Yes. BetSuite never asks for or stores your sportsbook credentials. We don't have access to your sportsbook accounts. Your BetSuite account uses industry-standard encryption. We only store the minimum data needed to provide the service (email, preferences, betting history for your own records).
What happens if BetSuite goes down during a session?
If BetSuite experiences downtime, you can still place bets directly on your sportsbooks. Any bets you've already placed remain valid. We maintain high uptime standards and will communicate any planned maintenance in advance. Your sportsbook accounts are completely independent of BetSuite.
